                                        NAMI Basics ?

                                        NAMI Basics
                                        is the new signature education program for parents and other caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illnesses

                                        The course is taught by trained teachers who are parents or other caregivers of individuals who developed the symptoms of mental illness prior to the age of 13 years. All instruction and course materials are free to class participants.

                                        ABOUT THE CLASS

                                        Picture
                                        Registration is now open for this free course that offers education and support to any parent or primary caregiver of a child or adolescent living with emotional disorders. NAMI Basics provides learning and practical insights for families.  Taught by parents who have lived similar experiences with their own children, the course and all educational materials are offered free of charge!  The course consists of 6 classes that meet weekly for 2-1/2 hour sessions.  All instructors have been trained by the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

                                        Course Elements Include:
                                        -The trauma of mental illness for the child and the family.
                                        -The biology of mental illness: getting an accurate diagnosis
                                        -The latest research on the medical aspects of the illness and advances in
                                          treatment
                                        -An overview of treatment options - treatment works
                                        -The impact of a child's mental illness on the rest of the family - caregivers
                                         and siblings
                                        -An overview of the systems involved in caring for children and teens
